Does Neuroplasticity Support the Hypothesis of Multiple Realizability?

چکیده
Abstract It is commonly maintained that neuroplastic mechanisms in the brain provide empirical support for hypothesis of multiple realizability. We show various case studies neuroplasticity stems from preexisting and processes inherent neural (or biochemical) structure brain. argue not only does fail to evidence realization, its inability do so strengthens mind-body identity theory. Finally, we a recently proposed theory called Flat Physicalism can be enlisted explain current state problem more adequately.

The Adaptive Neuroplasticity Hypothesis of Behavioral Maintenance
Physical activity is a seemingly simple and clinically potent method to decrease morbidity and mortality in people with coronary heart disease (CHD). Nonetheless, long-term maintenance of physical activity remains a frustratingly elusive goal for patients and practitioners alike. In this paper, we posit that among older adults with CHD, recidivism after the initiation of physical activity refle...
متن کاملThe “Multirealization” of Multiple Realizability
Multiple Realizability (MR) must still be regarded as one of the principal arguments against type reductionist accounts of higher-order properties and their special laws. Against this I argue that there is no unique MR but rather a multitude of MR categories. In a slogan: MR is itself “multi-realized”. If this is true then we cannot expect one unique reductionist strategy against MR as an anti-...
متن کاملA Neuroplasticity Hypothesis of Chronic Stress in the Basolateral Amygdala
Chronic stress plays a role in the etiology of several affective and anxiety-related disorders. Despite this, its mechanistic effects on the brain are still unclear. Of particular interest is the effect of chronic stress on the amygdala, which plays a key role in the regulation of emotional responses and memory consolidation. This review proposes a neuroplasticity model for the effects of chron...

متن کاملIs Multiple Realizability Compatible With Antireductionism?
In a rich and provocative paper, Jaegwon Kim offers an ingenious argument for psychophysical reductionism. I take Kim to be posing a dilemma for anyone who would deny reductionism, viz. that one must either advocate the wholesale reduction of psychology to physical science or one must advocate the sundering of psychology into distinct fields, each one of which is reducible to physical science. ...
